So, I wanted to connect to my work LAN’s ESXi server to upload a new image. I was curious what ports I needed open, and apparently the answer is quite simple.
I started working backwards in reading that port 902 was the main communication port, but 80/443 were needed to establish other types of communication. Turns out the only ports you need directly open are 902 and 443. That’s it. Works pretty good, except I had to shut off the now in-use port 443 temporarily.
Anyone know how to change these ports to something other than 443 or 902 in the client and ESXi Server? I tried tunneling but it didn’t seem to like me too much…
This article here talks a little about the ports you need and what happens with the traffic: http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=1356939
